Kingfisher have a ball at their fun sports day

Fun Day sports

Kingfisher Private School held their annual Fun Sports Day on Friday 15 May 2009. As ever, it was a huge success with every learner from the youngest fledgling to the College students enjoying themselves tremendously. The fun sports were split into three phases, with varying degrees of difficulty according to the ages of the pupils. The Malachite team proved to be like the Blue Bulls – strong and unbeatable again. They took both the Spirit and Sports Trophies. However, it must be said that the Kookaburra parents beat the Malachite parents soundly in the tug of war! It was a fabulous evening of family interaction, and Kingfisher would like to thank all involved, especially their superb fundraising committee who kept food and drinks available during the course of the proceedings!

Grade 1 outreach project assists Lulekani school

Grade 1 learners

Each class of Kingfisher Private School adopts an outreach programme. The Grade 1s have been enthusiastically collecting story books to share with other Grade 1 – 3 learners, and they recently visited Tihra Christian College in Lulekani to hand these books over. In return the Grade 1-3 class (which is combined at the Tihra Christian College) entertained the Kingfisher learners with some lovely songs. They were very grateful for the donation of books, and the Kingfisher Grade 1s were truly excited to have been able to help others.

Kingfisher Science Expo sets highest standards

Science Expo judge interviews learners about their project

Kingfisher Private School held their Science Exposition on Wednesday 29 April 2009. All pupils from Grades 5 to 11 produced Science Projects, either individually or in pairs. The Grade 4s undertook a group project as practice for next year when they will be tasked with producing their own.

The standard of the projects was excellent, and the range of subjects investigated was interesting and informative. Each learner had to present their project to three pairs of judges and the confidence and knowledge of the pupils about their subjects was encouraging to see.  The Top 10 projects from both the Primary School and College have advanced to the District round of the Science Exposition, where they will compete against projects from other schools in the district.

Kingfisher hold their annual Easter Hat Parade

Pre-school learners at the Easter Hat Parade

On Friday 27 March, Kingfisher Preparatory School held their annual Easter Hat Parade for Grades 000 to Grade 6. The Easter hats are planned and created by the learners, and reflect an Easter theme. They must be made from recyclable materials. Each learner parades their hat and explains to the judges how they made it, before the winners are chosen. This annual event is eagerly anticipated by the learners, and it was clear that enormous effort had gone into the various creations. This year the Kingfisher learners again showed their incredible creativity and enthusiasm, and a great deal of fun was had by all.

Kingfisher Grade 6s and 7s prove their entrepreneurship

Face painting is a money spinner

On Friday 27 March the Grade 6 and 7 learners of Kingfisher Private School held an Entrepreneurs Day. It was the culmination of many weeks of work as part of their EMS curriculum. Each learner selected their own “business” and made or obtained their goods or planned their service. In addition they had to create posters and encourage customers in the weeks before the sale. Then they had the opportunity to sell to all the other grades in the school on the last day of the term. It was a valuable learning experience – challenging but greatly satisfying. The learners went away to write up their experience – and count their profits!

Kingfisher College supports the blood donation service

College learners were eager to donate blood

Friday 27 March was a busy day at Kingfisher Private School, with the Easter Hat Parade, Entrepreneur’s Day and the establishment of a blood donation centre, organised by Kingfisher’s Grade 11 College students. The learners were determined to have as many people as possible make a life-saving donation of blood, and they received a great response from eligible students and Kingfisher parents. There were long queues of enthusiastic and high-spirited donators throughout the morning, and especially gratifying was the number of first-time donators who have vowed to continue to support this incredible service.
